Sennheiser has officially introduced the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 as its latest flagship TWS earbuds in select global markets. The new model focuses heavily on sound quality, noise cancellation, connectivity and long-term repairability rather than simply chasing another battery-life number.

The biggest talking point is the battery design. Both the earbuds and their charging case use user-replaceable batteries, allowing owners to replace worn-out cells instead of potentially replacing the entire product when battery capacity declines. Sennheiser says the process can be done using a compact screwdriver.

The earbuds are priced at $299.95 in the US, while the supplied regional launch information lists an MSRP of CAD 449.95. Shipping is scheduled to begin on September 3, 2026. There is currently no officially announced India price or India launch date from Sennheiser.

Why the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 Is Getting Attention

Most premium TWS earbuds eventually face the same problem: the tiny batteries inside them lose capacity, and replacing those batteries is generally not designed to be a normal consumer task.

Sennheiser is taking a different approach with the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5. The batteries inside both the earbuds and case are designed to be replaced by the user. That’s particularly interesting for buyers spending premium money on wireless audio because the rest of the hardware can remain useful even after years of battery degradation.

This also gives the earbuds a stronger sustainability argument. Instead of treating battery degradation as the effective end of the product’s useful life, Sennheiser is making battery servicing part of the design.

For everyday users, that could ultimately matter more than a small improvement in playback time.

Design & Build

Sennheiser has redesigned the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 with a fin-free earbud design intended to provide a more compact and comfortable fit. The company says the new shape was developed using data from thousands of ear models, while 73% of its testers rated the new design as more comfortable than the previous generation.

That 73% figure is a manufacturer testing claim rather than an independent comfort test, so it shouldn’t be treated as proof that the earbuds will fit every ear equally well.

The earbuds carry an IP54 rating, giving them protection against dust and splashes. That should make them suitable for commuting, everyday use and light workouts, although IP54 is not the same as full waterproofing.

The charging case has also been redesigned with a narrower profile, making it more pocket-friendly.

Sound Quality & Performance

At the centre of the earbuds are Sennheiser’s 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducers, manufactured and tested at the company’s facility in Tullamore, Ireland. The company continues to position these earbuds around detailed, full-bodied audio rather than simply emphasizing bass or loudness.

Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity works alongside Snapdragon Sound, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless. On compatible devices and sources, the earbuds can handle audio up to 24-bit/96kHz.

There is also a low-latency mode aimed at gaming. That doesn’t automatically make these gaming-first earbuds, but it should be useful for users who switch between music, video and games.

Importantly, independent listening tests were not available at launch, so sound-quality conclusions beyond the hardware and Sennheiser’s claims should wait for hands-on testing.

ANC, Calls & Dolby Atmos

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 gets a revised adaptive hybrid active noise cancellation system with automatic wind-noise reduction. A dedicated four-microphone setup helps with ANC, while the earbuds use six microphones and two bone-conduction voice accelerometers for calls.

Sennheiser has also added an AI-based speech-extraction system designed to separate the user’s voice from surrounding noise. This could be particularly useful for calls in busy streets, offices or cafés, although real-world call performance will ultimately depend on testing.

Another major upgrade is Dolby Atmos with interactive head tracking. Instead of spatial audio remaining fixed around the listener, the sound field can respond as the user’s head moves, creating a more immersive presentation with supported content.

What Makes the Momentum True Wireless 5 Different?

The replaceable-battery system is easily the most unusual feature here.

Wireless earbuds have traditionally been difficult to repair because their tiny batteries are integrated into compact housings. Sennheiser’s approach means the earbuds and case can potentially continue working long after their original batteries have degraded.

The bigger question is whether buyers will actually replace the batteries themselves. The company says a compact screwdriver is enough, but users who aren’t comfortable opening small electronics may still prefer professional assistance.

Either way, the concept is significant because it addresses one of the biggest long-term limitations of TWS products.

Software & Smart Features

The earbuds work with the Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app, which provides an eight-band equaliser, sound modes and Sound Personalisation. The personalisation system was developed with the Fraunhofer Institute, according to Sennheiser.

Connectivity features include Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and multipoint switching. A redesigned RF antenna also brings a selectable Robust Mode, intended to improve connection stability in environments with heavy wireless interference.

The earbuds support both Android and iOS devices, so the feature set isn’t limited to one smartphone ecosystem.

Battery & Charging

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 offers up to 12 hours of playback per earbud, while the charging case takes total listening time to as much as 40 hours.

The case supports Qi wireless charging and USB Type-C charging. An eight-minute quick charge can provide up to one hour of playback.

However, the most important battery feature isn’t the 40-hour figure. It’s the fact that both the earbud and case batteries can be replaced. That gives the product a potentially longer useful life than conventional sealed-battery TWS earbuds.

Actual battery endurance will vary depending on volume, ANC use, codec, connectivity and other conditions.

Connectivity

The earbuds support:

  • Bluetooth 6.0
  • aptX Adaptive
  • aptX Lossless
  • AAC and SBC
  • Google Fast Pair
  • Microsoft Swift Pair
  • Multipoint connectivity
  • Snapdragon Sound
  • Low-latency mode
  • Selectable Robust Mode

For users with compatible Snapdragon Sound devices, aptX Lossless and high-resolution playback make the earbuds particularly interesting from an audio-quality perspective.

Competition & Alternatives
Alternative Why consider it? Why choose the Momentum True Wireless 5 instead?
Apple AirPods Pro 3 Strong ANC, spatial audio and Apple ecosystem integration Replaceable batteries, aptX Lossless and broader Android-friendly appeal
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds 2nd Gen Strong ANC and premium sound Longer claimed total battery life and replaceable batteries
Sony WF-1000XM6 Premium ANC and flagship wireless audio Replaceable battery system and 40-hour total playback

The AirPods Pro 3 currently starts at ₹25,900 officially in India, while the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds 2nd Gen are listed at ₹32,900 on Bose India’s authorised distributor site. Current Indian listings put the Sony WF-1000XM6 around ₹29,639.

This makes the eventual Indian price of the Momentum True Wireless 5 especially important.

Is the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 Worth Its Price?

At $299.95 in the US, the Momentum True Wireless 5 remains firmly in the premium TWS segment. Its case for that price isn’t based on one specification alone.

The strongest argument is the replaceable battery system. Buyers who keep earbuds for several years could potentially avoid replacing an otherwise perfectly functional product simply because its battery has degraded.

The 7mm TrueResponse drivers, adaptive ANC, Dolby Atmos head tracking, aptX Lossless and Bluetooth 6.0 add to the premium package. However, Indian buyers should wait for the official India price before deciding whether it offers better value than Bose, Sony or Apple’s alternatives.

If Sennheiser prices it close to the current ₹25,000–₹33,000 premium TWS range, the long-term battery design could give it a meaningful advantage. If the India price is substantially higher, the value proposition becomes less straightforward.

Final Verdict

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 is interesting for a reason that goes beyond sound quality.

Replaceable batteries could be the feature that matters most over the long term. The combination of replaceable cells, 40-hour total playback, adaptive ANC, Dolby Atmos head tracking and high-resolution Bluetooth audio gives the earbuds a strong premium feature set.

But for Indian buyers, one major piece is still missing: the official India price and availability.

Until Sennheiser confirms those details, it is difficult to call the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 a clear value winner in India. If the pricing is competitive, however, buyers who care about longevity and repairability should have a very good reason to put these on their shortlist.
