 Design & Build

The AirPods 5 retain Apple’s familiar open-ear approach rather than adopting the sealed in-ear design used by AirPods Pro. That distinction is important: users who dislike silicone ear tips still get an ANC-enabled option.

Each earbud weighs 4.3 grams, while the charging case measures 46.2 x 50.1 x 21.2mm. Both versions have an IP57 rating for dust, sweat and water resistance.

The Wireless Charging Case version adds a particularly useful hardware change: a force sensor with swipe gestures for adjusting volume. This is a first for Apple’s non-Pro open-ear AirPods line.

Audio & Active Noise Cancellation

ANC is the headline upgrade. Apple says AirPods 5 provide up to 1.5x better Active Noise Cancellation than AirPods 4 with ANC, while describing the performance as the best ANC available in an open-ear design.

Because the AirPods 5 remain open-ear earbuds, they should still allow users to maintain greater awareness of their surroundings than with sealed in-ear earbuds. Transparency mode has also been improved, while Adaptive Audio automatically blends ANC and Transparency depending on the environment.

Conversation Awareness can detect when you start speaking and automatically reduce media volume before restoring it afterwards.

Apple has also redesigned the acoustic architecture and added next-generation Adaptive EQ. The company says this is designed to provide richer, more detailed audio across a wider range of ear shapes. Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking is supported as well.

Performance & Smart Features

The AirPods 5 are powered by Apple’s H2 headphone chip. It handles audio processing, ANC and several of the earbuds’ intelligent features.

The earbuds also bring hands-free Siri AI when paired with a compatible Apple device. Siri Interactions allow users to respond using simple head movements, such as nodding to accept something or shaking their head to decline.

Live Translation is another notable addition. Apple says the feature works with compatible Apple devices and Apple Intelligence, although availability depends on supported languages and regions.

These features make the AirPods 5 more than simply an audio upgrade, particularly for users already invested in Apple’s ecosystem.

Battery & Charging

Battery life depends on which AirPods 5 version you choose.

The standard AirPods 5 provide up to 4 hours of listening with ANC enabled, with the charging case extending total ANC listening time to up to 20 hours.

The AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case increase single-charge ANC listening time to up to 5 hours, while total listening time with the case reaches up to 22 hours. A five-minute charge provides around one hour of battery life.

Both cases use USB-C. The Wireless Charging Case additionally works with Apple Watch chargers and Qi-certified chargers and includes a speaker for Find My alerts.

Connectivity & Special Features

The AirPods 5 use Bluetooth 5.3 and feature dual beamforming microphones, an inward-facing microphone and motion- and speech-detecting accelerometers.

Other notable features include:

  • Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking
  • Adaptive Audio
  • Transparency mode
  • Conversation Awareness
  • Voice Isolation
  • Camera remote functionality
  • Siri Interactions
  • Live Translation
  • Find My support on the Wireless Charging Case

Price & Availability in India

Apple has launched two AirPods 5 configurations in India:

  • AirPods 5 – ₹14,900
  • AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case – ₹17,900

Apple’s Indian online store lists both models for pre-order, with availability from September 18, 2026.

Competition & Alternatives

The biggest competition comes from both Apple’s own lineup and premium wireless earbuds from Samsung, Google and other manufacturers.

Alternative Why Consider It? Why Choose AirPods 5 Instead?
AirPods 4 with ANC Potentially cheaper after discounts Newer acoustic system and longer battery
AirPods Pro 3 Stronger in-ear ANC and more advanced features Open-ear comfort and lower starting price
Premium Android earbuds Often stronger value and broader Android compatibility Better integration with iPhone, Siri and Apple ecosystem

The AirPods Pro 3 remain the more capable option for buyers who specifically want maximum noise isolation and an in-ear fit; Apple’s own store positions them above the AirPods 5 in the lineup.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?

The AirPods 5 are a significant upgrade for buyers who want Apple’s open-ear design but previously had to compromise on ANC. The combination of ANC, improved audio processing, H2, Spatial Audio and IP57 protection makes them considerably more capable than a basic pair of open earbuds.

The ₹14,900 standard AirPods 5 make the most sense for users who primarily want ANC and Apple’s ecosystem at the lowest price. The ₹17,900 Wireless Charging Case version is the more complete option if you value wireless charging, volume controls and the extra hour of ANC battery life.

However, buyers who prioritise maximum noise cancellation should still consider an in-ear model such as AirPods Pro. The open-ear design is comfortable and keeps users more aware of their surroundings, but that same design naturally limits passive isolation.

Best for: iPhone users who want open-ear comfort, ANC and Apple’s smart features.

Consider alternatives if: You want maximum ANC, longer standalone battery life or stronger value outside Apple’s ecosystem.

Bottom line: AirPods 5 give Apple’s standard open-ear earbuds a surprisingly substantial upgrade. ANC on both variants is the biggest change, while the redesigned acoustics, H2 chip, AI features and IP57 rating make them a much more compelling everyday option.
