  • Up to 10 days of claimed battery life with battery-saving settings

OPPO has introduced the  Oppo Watch S2 in China as a fitness-focused smartwatch with a new FatMax workout mode designed to provide personalised guidance during exercise. The watch combines a round stainless-steel design with a 1.46-inch AMOLED display, updated health sensors and more than 100 sports modes, targeting users who want detailed workout and health tracking without moving to a dedicated sports watch.

The biggest addition is FatMax, which uses personal information such as height, weight, resting heart rate and VO2 max to calculate a target heart-rate range for fat-burning workouts. During exercise, the watch provides real-time guidance and estimates fat and carbohydrate consumption. OPPO also includes ECG, blood-oxygen, heart-rate and wrist-temperature sensors for broader health monitoring.

Battery life is another major part of the Watch S2’s positioning. OPPO claims up to 10 days in battery-saving use, while typical use is rated at around seven days and always-on display use at around four days. The watch runs ColorOS Watch 17 and also supports features such as NFC, gesture controls and dual-smartphone connectivity.

Design & Display

The Watch S2 uses a round stainless-steel case measuring 45 × 45 × 8.9mm and weighing around 34.5g without the strap. It comes with a fluoroelastomer strap, with three colour options: Dynamic Orange, Mist Pink and Mountain Shadow Gray.

Its 1.46-inch AMOLED display has a 464 × 464-pixel resolution and 317ppi density. OPPO rates everyday brightness at 600 nits, while selected outdoor sports modes can reach up to 3,000 nits, which is intended to improve visibility when exercising outdoors in bright conditions.

The watch also carries 5ATM water resistance alongside IP69 and IP69K protection, giving it a higher level of protection for workouts and outdoor use than a smartwatch with only basic splash resistance.

FatMax Fitness Mode

The FatMax mode is the Watch S2’s defining fitness feature. Instead of relying solely on generic heart-rate zones, the watch calculates a personalised target based on factors including the user’s height, weight, resting heart rate and VO2 max.

During a workout, the watch provides real-time guidance intended to keep the user within that target range. It also estimates the amount of fat and carbohydrates burned during the session.

This makes the feature more relevant to users specifically interested in endurance and body-composition-focused training. However, the calorie, fat and carbohydrate figures are smartwatch estimates rather than laboratory measurements, so they should be treated as fitness guidance rather than medical or metabolic measurements.

Health & Fitness Tracking

OPPO has equipped the Watch S2 with an updated health sensor system that includes an eight-channel optical heart-rate sensor, 16-channel blood-oxygen sensor, ECG electrodes and a temperature sensor. The watch can monitor heart rate and blood oxygen throughout the day and also supports sleep tracking and sleep-apnoea screening.

A 60-second health check can record 13 health-related metrics in a single reading. The watch also supports fall detection and more than 100 sports modes.

For outdoor activities, dual-frequency GPS is available for route tracking. This is particularly useful for runners, cyclists and other users who want location tracking without relying entirely on a phone.

Software & Smart Features

The Watch S2 runs ColorOS Watch 17. OPPO has added Fluid Cloud functionality for information such as transit and food-delivery updates, while the watch can connect to two smartphones simultaneously for notifications.

Other features include NFC support and gesture controls. OPPO’s ecosystem documentation notes that some gesture and cross-device features require compatible OPPO devices and specific ColorOS versions, so the full feature set may differ depending on the phone paired with the watch.

The watch supports Android 10 or newer and iOS 14 or later according to the supplied specifications.

Battery Life

The OPPO Watch S2 packs a 339mAh battery. OPPO claims up to 10 days of battery life, although that figure depends on the operating mode.

For typical use, the company rates the watch at around seven days, while enabling the always-on display reduces the claimed battery life to around four days. The 10-day figure is therefore better understood as a battery-saving scenario rather than normal smartwatch usage.

This distinction matters because continuous health tracking, GPS, notifications and an always-on display can all increase power consumption.

Price & Availability

The OPPO Watch S2 is priced at CNY 1,599 in China. It is scheduled to go on sale in China on September 24.

It is available in Dynamic Orange, Mist Pink and Mountain Shadow Gray.

OPPO has not announced international pricing or availability for the Watch S2 at the time of writing. Therefore, the Chinese price should not be treated as an official India price.

OPPO Watch S2 vs a Conventional Smartwatch

The Watch S2’s main difference is its emphasis on fitness guidance rather than simply recording workout data. FatMax attempts to turn heart-rate information into real-time exercise guidance, while the combination of ECG, SpO2, temperature and heart-rate sensors gives it a broader health-tracking feature set.

Its seven-day typical-use battery claim also places more emphasis on reducing charging frequency than many full-featured smartwatches. However, the headline 10-day figure requires a lower-power usage scenario, so buyers should look at the seven-day typical-use figure as the more useful reference point.

Final Verdict: Should You Consider the OPPO Watch S2?

The OPPO Watch S2 is primarily aimed at users who want fitness-focused tracking, personalised workout guidance and longer battery life rather than a smartwatch designed mainly for apps and notifications.

Best for: Fitness users, runners and people interested in heart-rate-based training, health tracking and reduced charging frequency.

Consider alternatives if: You need confirmed availability outside China, broader third-party app support, or a smartwatch built around a different ecosystem.

Bottom line: FatMax is the feature that gives the Watch S2 its clearest identity. Combined with its health sensors, 100-plus sports modes, dual-frequency GPS and relatively long claimed battery life, it makes the watch more focused on exercise tracking than simply extending smartphone notifications to the wrist.
