vivo has launched the vivo Buds Clip, its first clip-style true wireless stereo earbuds, in China. The new open-ear earbuds use a flexible titanium alloy bridge that sits around the ear instead of traditional in-ear tips, making the design the main difference from conventional TWS earbuds.
The Buds Clip combine a 12mm dual magnetic moving coil driver with Hi-Res Audio Wireless and LDAC support. They also bring features such as three-device connectivity, bone-conduction-assisted AI call noise reduction, real-time translation and AI-powered information broadcasts when paired with compatible vivo and iQOO devices.

Design & Build
The vivo Buds Clip take a different approach from traditional earbuds by leaving the ear canal open. A flexible memory titanium alloy bridge wraps around the ear and holds the speaker section in place.
Each earbud weighs approximately 5.2 grams, while vivo says the design was developed using more than 2,000 real-ear models to optimise the shape and pressure points. The earbuds use a symmetrical design, meaning there is no fixed left or right earbud.
This design should appeal to people who dislike the plugged-in feeling of conventional in-ear earbuds. It also allows ambient sound to remain audible, which can be useful when commuting, walking or working around other people.
The trade-off is inherent to the open-ear format: the earbuds do not provide the same physical isolation from surrounding noise as sealed in-ear models.
The Buds Clip have an IP55 rating for the earbuds, protecting against dust and water splashes. The charging case is not covered by this IP55 rating.
Audio & Sound Features
The Buds Clip use a 12mm dual magnetic moving coil driver with a claimed 0.8mm large-amplitude movement. They support Hi-Res Audio Wireless and the LDAC, AAC, SBC and LC3 codecs.
vivo also includes DeepX 5.0 stereo sound, spatial audio and a 10-band custom equaliser. Users can adjust the sound according to their preferences rather than being limited to a fixed tuning.
There are also different listening modes. Balanced Mode is designed for quieter environments, while Voice Enhancement Mode is intended to make vocals and dialogue easier to hear when surrounding noise is present. A sound-leakage reduction mode is also available through the vivo TWS app.
Because the Buds Clip are open-ear earbuds, these features should be viewed in the context of the design. They are built around keeping the ear canal open rather than delivering the isolation associated with conventional sealed earbuds.
Call Quality and AI Features
One of the more unusual features is the Buds Clip’s bone-conduction-assisted AI call noise reduction.
vivo combines a dual-microphone array with a VPU bone-conduction microphone. The system is designed to distinguish the user’s voice from environmental noise during calls, including sounds such as traffic, keyboard noise and wind. These are manufacturer-described capabilities rather than independently tested results.
The earbuds also support real-time translation when paired with compatible vivo and iQOO smartphones. The phone and earbuds work together for voice input, translation and audio output.
Another ecosystem feature is AI intelligent broadcasting. On supported devices, the earbuds can provide spoken updates for things such as deliveries, flights and train information without requiring the user to constantly check the phone.
These features are not universal across every Android phone. Several advanced functions require compatible vivo/iQOO devices and specific software versions.
Connectivity and Multi-Device Support
The Buds Clip support Bluetooth 5.4 and can maintain connections with up to three devices simultaneously.
That means the earbuds can be connected to a phone, tablet and computer and switch audio between devices. For someone moving between a work laptop and smartphone throughout the day, this can be more useful than having to disconnect and reconnect manually. vivo claims a latency of 70ms.
The earbuds also support additional ecosystem features on compatible vivo and iQOO devices, including customised pairing pop-ups, Find My Earbuds, intelligent volume adjustment and wide-area touch controls.
Battery & Charging
The vivo Buds Clip are rated for up to 10 hours of playback from the earbuds and up to 42 hours with the charging case.
vivo also claims that a 10-minute charge can provide up to three hours of music playback under its laboratory testing conditions. The case uses a USB Type-C port.
vivo’s official product page additionally lists a wireless-charging version. That version supports Qi wireless charging and can also be charged using compatible phone reverse-wireless-charging functionality. The wireless charger itself is sold separately.
Price & Availability
The vivo Buds Clip have launched in China at CNY 599, They are offered in Floating Purple, Moonlight White and Starry Night Black Colour options.
- vivo Buds Clip – CNY 599 (Approx.₹8,600)
vivo’s official product page also lists a wireless-charging version, but the supplied launch information does not establish its India or international pricing.
As of the launch, vivo has not announced India or wider global availability.
Competition & Alternatives
The Buds Clip enter a growing open-ear market where the main selling point is keeping the ear canal open.
| Alternative | Why Consider It? | Why Consider Buds Clip? |
|---|---|---|
| Huawei FreeClip 2 | Established clip-style design and HarmonyOS ecosystem | Lower China launch price and three-device connectivity |
| Shokz OpenDots 2 | Open-ear design with strong battery and durability | Clip-style design plus vivo/iQOO AI and ecosystem features |
| Conventional in-ear TWS | Better isolation from external noise | Buds Clip are better suited to users who want to hear their surroundings |
Huawei’s FreeClip 2, for example, is also built around a clip-style open-ear design and is listed at CNY 1,299 on Huawei China’s website, giving the Buds Clip a substantially lower China launch price.
However, price comparisons between China launches and other markets should be treated carefully because taxes, availability and regional pricing can differ.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Open-ear clip design avoids the plugged-in feeling of traditional in-ear earbuds
- Lightweight 5.2g design per earbud
- 12mm driver with LDAC and Hi-Res Audio Wireless
- Three-device simultaneous connectivity
- Up to 42 hours of claimed total battery life
- IP55 protection for the earbuds
- Extensive AI and ecosystem features with compatible vivo/iQOO devices
Cons
- China availability announced; India and global availability remain unknown
- Several advanced features depend on compatible vivo/iQOO phones
- Open-ear construction provides less noise isolation than sealed in-ear earbuds
- IP55 protection does not apply to the charging case
Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?
The vivo Buds Clip makes the most sense for users who prefer an open-ear listening experience and want to remain aware of their surroundings rather than block outside noise. The lightweight clip design, three-device connectivity and 42-hour rated total battery life make it particularly relevant for people who move between phones, tablets and computers.
Its biggest differentiator, however, is the combination of the clip-style hardware with vivo’s software ecosystem. Features such as real-time translation, AI broadcasting, Find My Earbuds and custom controls become more useful when paired with compatible vivo or iQOO devices.
Buyers who mainly use another Android brand should check compatibility before purchasing because some of the more advanced features depend on specific vivo/iQOO hardware and software.
Best for: Users who want open-ear earbuds, lightweight long-duration wear and vivo/iQOO ecosystem features.
Consider alternatives if: You need strong passive noise isolation, use an unsupported smartphone ecosystem, or prefer conventional in-ear earbuds.
Bottom line: The Buds Clip is an ecosystem-focused open-ear TWS product rather than simply another pair of wireless earbuds. Its clip design, multi-device support and AI features give it a distinct position, although its value outside the vivo/iQOO ecosystem will depend heavily on compatibility and eventual regional pricing.
