HP has launched the OmniBook 5 14 in India, expanding its consumer laptop lineup with a lightweight AI PC aimed primarily at students and everyday users. The laptop combines a slim aluminium chassis with a 14-inch OLED display, making portability and screen quality its main selling points.

The OmniBook 5 supports up to an Intel Core 7 processor with integrated AI processing capabilities of up to 16 TOPS. It also features a 16:10 OLED panel with 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage, an FHD IR webcam and Poly Studio-tuned audio.

HP has also focused on portability, with the laptop weighing 1.16kg and measuring 11.77mm in thickness. Its 60Wh battery is rated to deliver up to 42 hours of local video playback under HP’s specified testing conditions.

The HP OmniBook 5 14 features an aluminium chassis with a sandblasted anodised finish. It measures approximately 312.5 × 219 × 11.77mm and weighs 1.16kg, making it relatively easy to carry between classes, offices and home.

HP has included a 180-degree hinge, allowing the display to fold flat. The laptop also features a backlit keyboard and a tone-on-tone design.

It will be offered in four colours: Smoke Silver, Starlit Blue, Peony Pink and Soft Honeydew.

The lightweight construction is one of the laptop’s main advantages for users who regularly travel with their computers.

Display

The OmniBook 5 features a 14-inch OLED display with a 1920 × 1200-pixel resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The panel covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and offers up to 300 nits of brightness.

OLED technology allows individual pixels to switch off completely, producing deeper blacks and stronger contrast than conventional LCD panels. The wide colour coverage should also benefit users who regularly view photographs, videos and other colour-rich content.

Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and a low-blue-light mode are also included.

However, the 300-nit brightness rating could be a limitation when using the laptop outdoors or in brightly lit environments. Buyers looking for a high-refresh-rate display should also note that HP has not established a higher refresh rate in the listed Indian configuration.

Performance & AI Capabilities

The HP OmniBook 5 supports up to an Intel Core 7 processor, although the currently listed Indian configuration uses the Intel Core 5 320.

The Core 5 320 is a six-core, six-thread processor with clock speeds of up to 4.6GHz. It also includes Intel AI Boost, an integrated NPU rated at 16 TOPS, alongside integrated Intel graphics.

The NPU is designed to handle supported AI workloads locally, potentially reducing the need to send certain processing tasks to cloud services. However, actual AI capabilities depend on software support and compatible applications.

HP has announced configurations with up to 16GB of onboard LPDDR5 memory and 512GB SSD storage. The currently listed 8GB configuration uses soldered memory, meaning users cannot upgrade the RAM later. Buyers who plan to keep the laptop for several years should consider a 16GB variant if available.

The hardware is positioned for everyday productivity, browsing, online classes and office applications rather than demanding gaming or professional graphics workloads.

Camera, Audio & Security

The OmniBook 5 includes a 1080p FHD IR webcam with HDR auto switching and temporal noise reduction. Its infrared sensor supports Windows Hello facial recognition, allowing users to sign in without entering a password.

The laptop also features dual microphones and stereo speakers tuned by Poly Studio, with DTS:X Ultra audio support.

For security, HP lists firmware-based Trusted Platform Module support and a dedicated microphone mute key.

Battery & Charging

The laptop packs a 60Wh battery and comes with a 65W USB-C Mini GaN charger.

HP claims up to 42 hours of local video playback. This is a manufacturer-tested figure rather than an indication of typical battery life during browsing, video calls or multitasking.

The laptop also supports fast charging, with HP claiming that it can reach approximately 50% battery capacity in 30 minutes when the system is switched off and using the supplied or recommended adapter.

Actual battery life will depend on screen brightness, workload, connectivity and other settings.

Connectivity & Other Features

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, two USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm headphone and microphone combo jack.

Both USB-C ports support 10Gbps data transfer, USB Power Delivery 3.1 and DisplayPort 2.1. This allows users to connect compatible external displays and charge the laptop through USB-C.

Price in India & Availability

The HP OmniBook 5 14 starts at ₹1,09,999 in India. HP is offering an effective price of ₹79,999 through applicable offers, although the final price depends on eligibility and payment conditions.

Pre-bookings are available through the HP Online Store and HP World Stores until November 10, 2026. Regular sales are scheduled to begin on November 10 through HP and authorised resellers.

The laptop will be available in Smoke Silver, Starlit Blue, Peony Pink and Soft Honeydew colour options.

The currently listed HP India configuration features an Intel Core 5 320 processor, 8GB onboard RAM and 512GB SSD storage. HP’s broader launch specifications mention configurations with up to an Intel Core 7 processor and 16GB RAM. Buyers should check the exact configuration before purchasing.

Competition & Alternatives

The HP OmniBook 5 competes in the lightweight 14-inch laptop segment, where display quality, portability and everyday performance are important buying factors.

The Dell 14S is a relevant alternative for students and everyday users, with Intel Core Series 3 processor options, an aluminium chassis and different display configurations. Its 2.8K 120Hz panel option may appeal to buyers who prioritise sharper visuals and smoother scrolling.

Apple’s MacBook Neo is another alternative for buyers comfortable with macOS. However, the choice depends on software compatibility, ecosystem preferences and the actual configuration prices available at the time of purchase.

HP’s main advantage is its OLED display, lightweight construction and Windows compatibility. A direct value comparison should account for the exact RAM, storage and display configurations rather than just the starting prices.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the HP OmniBook 5 14?

The HP OmniBook 5 14 is primarily aimed at students and everyday users who want a lightweight Windows laptop with an OLED display. Its 1.16kg aluminium design, 16:10 screen and compact charger make it suitable for people who regularly carry their laptops.

The OLED panel is one of its strongest features, particularly for users who watch videos, work with photographs or prefer the contrast and colour reproduction offered by OLED technology. The 60Wh battery and claimed video playback figures are also worth considering, although real-world endurance remains to be independently tested.

However, the 8GB base configuration deserves careful consideration because its memory cannot be upgraded. Buyers should ideally look for the 16GB option if it is available within their budget.

Best for: Students, office users and people prioritising portability and OLED display quality.

Consider alternatives if: You need dedicated graphics, upgradeable memory, a brighter high-refresh-rate display or sustained performance for demanding workloads.

Bottom line: The HP OmniBook 5 14 offers an interesting combination of portability and OLED display technology. Its value will depend heavily on the final configuration and whether buyers can secure the advertised effective price.
